Sustainability has always been central to how we operate at Danes Coffee Roasters.
We believe businesses have a responsibility to reduce their environmental impact and contribute positively to the communities and environments they depend on. From ethically sourcing coffee beans to minimising waste in our roastery and reducing delivery emissions, we continuously look for ways to improve our environmental performance.
Our goal is simple: to help ensure the natural environments we enjoy today are protected for future generations.
In 2021, Danes Coffee Roasters received the Northern Beaches Business Sustainability Award at the Local Business Awards. This recognition highlights our commitment to embedding sustainability practices across business planning, operations, and customer experience.
For more than 30 years, we have partnered with trusted coffee producers and suppliers around the world to source high-quality beans that are grown responsibly and ethically.
We work closely with our coffee brokers and farmers to prioritise:
All coffee is roasted in-house, allowing us to maintain quality control while minimising production waste.
Our roastery operates with one of the largest solar systems possible for our facility, using advanced panels, inverters, and smart metering technology.
This investment has:
Reducing packaging waste is a major priority across our operations.
We use:
Our coffee bags can be recycled through soft-plastic recycling programs where available.
We also reuse incoming packaging materials wherever possible to further minimise waste.
We work with our logistics partner Shippit and major Australian couriers to reduce the environmental impact of deliveries.
Where possible, delivery emissions are carbon-offset, helping reduce the footprint of shipping coffee across Australia while ensuring products arrive safely.
We operate an extensive recycling and reuse program designed to divert the maximum possible material away from landfill.
This includes recycling or repurposing:
Through partnerships with local organisations and sustainability programs, many by-products are given a second life.
Examples include:
We actively encourage customers to use reusable cups, including our branded reusable cup range.
For takeaway service, we use plant-based cups that are commercially compostable and recyclable.
Through our partnership with Simply Cups, we also provide on-site collection and recycling of takeaway cups at our roastery drive-through. This program transforms used cups into new products, supporting a genuine circular recycling system.
Through the NSW EPA Bin Trim Program, Danes has been independently assessed and ranked in the top percentile of businesses for waste reduction, recycling between 92% and 100% of operational waste.
We continue working with sustainability partners and regulatory programs to improve performance each year.
Sustainability is an ongoing journey.
We remain committed to reducing our environmental footprint, investing in better technologies, and working with responsible partners throughout our supply chain.
Every improvement — large or small — helps create a more sustainable future for our customers, our industry, and our planet.
